T: We describe herein the association between sea temperature variation and changes in oxygenation, fertility, and productivity between 2016 and 2017 off the Peruvian coast, especially in the northern area. Therefore, both in situ and satellite data, were considered. In summer (March), the 2017 Coastal El Niño triggered a decrease in nutrient concentrations and a significant reduction of the productive area off the coast, up to 49%, particularly north of Callao (12°S). Conversely, off the southern coast, the impacts were weak or even elevated chlorophyll-a concentrations were recorded, possibly associated with the faster recovery of coastal upwelling in that region. Also, during the same period, we detected dissolved oxygen concentrations, above normal, in the upper layer of the water column and little variation in the depth of the upper boundary of the oxygen minimum zone.-
