ABSTRACT: The Cruise RV Olaya 0506 was conducted from 5th to 23rd June, between Puerto Pizarro and Chicama. The most important results were: (1) the study area was dominated by cold coastal waters (CCW) associated with upwelling, due to the strong winds recorded during the previous weeks and the acoustic tracking; (2) just north of the 4°S tropical surface waters (TSW) were observed, showing a trend towards its normal location at the time; (3) in the north, the wind continued moderate to strong, encouraging the development of coastal upwelling in this area; (4) to south of 6°S remained the characteristics of the CCW, although the upwelling was weakening; (5) in general, the coastal upwelling developed in the entire study area, but the Southern Extension of the Cromwell Current (SECC) showed a trend toward their common areas, after being projected until Callao. |
